Keto Protein Powder Buns with NO Egg White Powder

 This bun is for all of you out there who want to make the egg white buns and bread recipes but cannot obtain the egg white powder! Anything you can do with that egg white powder bread batter, you can do with this one as well such as danishes, pizza crust, cinnamon buns, and so on.

Best of all, each Bun is less than 1 Total Carb each!

Ingredient List for Non Egg White Powder Buns

You will need these ingredients for the base recipe:

  • 3 tbsp plain unflavored whey protein powder
  • 5 whole eggs (separated)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder (optional)
  • pinch salt (optional)
  • pinch cream of tartar (optional)
  • large baking with parchment sheet or use a 6 well silicon muffin top pan

Optional Items for Variations on the Protein Buns

  • Up to 2 ounces of frozen grated butter to make Keto Butter Buns
  • Up to 2 ounces of frozen grated cheddar cheese to make Keto Cheese Buns
  • Seasonings to sprinkle on top such as Everything Bagel, Italian, Caraway seeds for Savory Buns
  • For Sweet Buns, add some sweetener to taste and top with cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, etc
  • Really, you can use your imagination and come up with all sorts of ideas!

Can I Make a Loaf of Bread Instead?

To make a loaf of egg white bread with no egg white powder, I would double the ingredients. Follow the same method for assembly  and then bake it for 25-35 minutes. Every oven is different so you may need to experiment!

Ingredients

  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 3 tbsp unflavored whey protein powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar (if using) until stiff
  3. In separate bowl beat egg yolks until lighter in color. Add whey protein, baking powder and salt if using and continue to beat until smooth.
  4. Scoop out 2 large dollops of the beaten egg whites and beat into the egg yolks until mixture is smooth.
  5. With mixer speed on low, slowly add in the egg yolk mixture to the egg whites until combine. Do not overmix!
  6. If using frozen grated butter or cheese, add it now and fold in with large spatula until well combined.
  7. Divide into 6 even piles on parchment sheet or silicone mat or pan.
  8. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
  9. Turn oven off and let buns sit for a few moments before removing.
  10. Enjoy!
